RTIA has recently established a new unit called the Enterprise Development Unit which is responsible for working together with small enterprises in order to facilitate transfer of valuable and necessary skills and mentorship to the youth, women and people living with disabilities in South Africa, especially in areas relating to the mandate and objectives of the Agency.
The Enterprise Development Programme is an initiative of RTIA to provide access and ease of use of the Agency’s programme by the communities while creating jobs and enterprises in line with its commitment to the National Development Plan. The appointed enterprises will perform extended services of the Agency. The model of this programme comprises of a mix of stakeholder engagement, awareness creation, education, technical assistance through information kiosks/helpdesk as well as remedial interventions (rehabilitation of repeat offenders).
The Agency projects that the programme will create 2320 enterprises (based on the distribution of 15 enterprises in each of the 232 municipalities in the country), with each enterprise creating 3 full time equivalent jobs; resulting in a total of 6960 job creation opportunities over three years.
